International Baccalaureate
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a university preparatory programme taught in more than 162 countries worldwide with over 5800 schools. One of these IB world schools is at Katedralskolan.

Swedish structure of the IB programme
The IB Programme at Katedralskolan is a three-year programme, in alignment with the structure of all upper-secondary programmes in Sweden. Therefore, most students start their journey in Year 10, and the progression is outlined below:
- Year 10, known as the Pre-Diploma Programme (Pre-DP), serves as a preparatory year in which students develop the competencies necessary for the Diploma Programme undertaken in Years 11 and 12. Courses in the Pre-DP year are assessed using the Swedish national grading scale (A–F) and confer the same qualifications as any other national programme after the first year. These grades play a significant role in various aspects of students’ educational pathways, including eligibility for admission to Swedish universities.
- The Pre-DP year is offered with either a science orientation or a social sciences orientation (see table below).

The Diploma Programme
In Years 11 and 12 (DP1 and DP2), you will study six subjects in depth. You create your own academic profile, but the IB Diploma also requires a balanced selection that includes languages, natural sciences, humanities, and, if you choose, the arts. See table below for subject offerings.
However, if your main interests lie in areas such as natural sciences and mathematics, you can still devote more than 60% of your study profile to these subjects, an opportunity unmatched by any other theoretical upper-secondary programme in Sweden.
